Good news for honey enthusiasts in NYC. The NYC Health Department revealed plans yesterday to lift a decade-old ban on keeping honeybees. As the NY daily news reported,

“Currently, bees are listed as “wild animals” under the city health code, and the fine for having a hive is up to $2,000.  “We looked very hard at it, and we are looking to carve out honeybees from that list [of wild animals],” said Nancy Clark, assistant commissioner of Environmental Disease Prevention.”

It is estimated that around 500 plus people New Yorkers already keep bees. I’m sure that this is a huge relief for them and the bee keeping groups including the New York City Beekeepers Association.
