WORCESTER, Mass. — Robert Ford, who co-owns Ford’s Hometown Services, Worcester, Mass., came to the rescue of a 76-year-old woman that was being attacked by a suspected rabid fox.
The Telegram & Gazette reported that Ford and wildlife specialist Leo DuPont were working outside and responded to nearby calls for help from Wenyu Chen. Ford said the fox was “tearing her up.â€
Ford told the Telegram & Gazette he “punted†the fox off Chen, instructed her to run to the house, and then he fended off the pest as best he could while help arrived. Meanwhile, DuPont called 911, which dispatched a Worcester police officer. Upon arrival the officer shot and injured the Fox, which subsequently was euthanized.
Chen had to be hospitalized overnight due to the injuries she sustained.
Ford also was hospitalized after sustaining multiple injuries and was given a set of rabies shots.
