Fort Lauderdale – South Florida officials reported that four people needed to be hospitalized after being stung as a swarm of bees attacked a women’s penitentiary.

The attack took place at the Broward Correctional Institution where at least eight people, including guards and inmates, were treated Wednesday evening after being stung by the bees.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said the attack was triggered by an inmate who reportedly stepped on a nest in a recreation yard.
